Fishing in Hervey Bay
Everywhere in Hervey Bay is close to a good fishing spot. Whether your choice is beach fishing, jetty fishing, deep-sea fishing, river fishing in the Great Sandy Strait, rock fishing on Fraser Island or even fresh water fishing in nearby Lenthalls Dam - you won't be disappointed. The Bay's own artificial reef stretches along the eastern side of Big Woody Island and provides innumerable nooks and crannies to hide a wide variety of fish. A veritable smorgasbord of fish species live and breed in the Bay's protected waterways from tropical species such as Snapper, Coral Trout and Sweetlip right through to the ever-popular whiting and even the big guys like Tuna, Mackerel and Marlin.
To help you really enjoy your fishing experience in Hervey Bay, there is an abundance of tackle shops, boat yards, ice, fuel - all the trimmings and good advice you could ever need, not to mention countless tales of the big ones that got away. For the added convenience of boat owners, there are a number of boat ramps situated along the foreshore, and the ramp at the Boat Harbour is an all-weather all-tide ramp with access for people with a disability. Always remember to be a responsible fisher - take only what you need, eat everything you take and make sure you adhere to size and bag limits and seasonal closures. |
